What My Adoption Means

The effectiveness of my ministry is directly impacted by the ongoing formation and leadership development I receive from my community. Adopting me or any other Companions’ priest ensures that we can be priests who are thriving and not simply surviving.

My Story

What was your background before you joined the CC?
Before I joined the CCs I was a student in Political Science at the University of Ottawa and was preparing to enter a career in International Law.

What led you to join this community?
While studying for the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) I was not at peace with the direction my life was taking. I had for a few years felt a persistent tapping at the door of my heart from the Lord prompting me to consider the priesthood. Through my experiences with a number of retreats and youth movements that just happened to be shepherded by Companions of the Cross priests, I was inspired to draw closer to the Lord and developed a deep desire to serve the Lord and his Church. One night while praying for direction, I remember asking the Lord where he wanted me to serve in his vineyard and that whatever it was I would do it. I opened up my bible to Luke 10:2 – “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few…” and I finally said “Yes” to the call to be a priest. When I made that decision, I was filled with joy and peace. I was led to a spiritual director who was also associated with the Companions of the Cross and was invited shortly thereafter to a meeting of the “brothers.” I was deeply impressed by the zeal for the Lord and his Church demonstrated by Fr. Bob Bedard and the young brothers in the community. I became an applicant nine months later.

What kind of ministry are you doing now?
I am currently serving as the Bishop of the Diocese of Saint John.
I was ordained to the episcopate on March 19, 2014.
I was ordained to the priesthood on October 12, 1996.
